Limited Seasonal Release!

This tart, savory and sweet herbal vinegar is used to support healthy liver function by moving stagnant Qi in the Spring time.

Chinese Medicine teaches us that to optimize health there is an appropriate season for the body to best receive this liver maintenance, and as luck would have it that time is now!

We love this as a "food is medicine" addition. Try it straight up as a shot or diluted in water or your favorite juice or tea. Try it in dressings, soups and sauces in place of other "basic vinegars" to give your body the targeted seasonal support it needs. It tastes great and turns your food into a functional remedy to keep your body in balance all season long.

Your liver is your body's filter, it spends all day filtering out toxins, cell debris, and all manner of interesting waste products we encounter during these messy human lives of ours. From time to time this filter gets clogged and needs to be cleaned out and freshened up.

Spring time is the time that Yang, or vital active Qi, is coming back after being tucked away for the Winter. When Yang starts to reemerge it will highlight areas in the body that are a little out of balance. It's like shining a bright light on the corners of a room that have been dark all winter and noticing the cobwebs and debris that have accumulated. It's been there but now we can see/feel it and we have the momentum of Spring Qi to do something about it.

This is especially true of the Liver this time of year, as extra Yang pumps into the liver if it is a little congested and that Yang Qi is not able to freely flow through this organ system we will start to experience symptoms of what TCM calls Liver Qi Stagnation.

Formulas and Strategies by Dan Bensky describes Xiao Yao San (Free and Easy Wanderer) as the quintessential herbal formula to move stagnant liver qi, strengthen the spleen so that digestion is not harmed by an over burdened liver, and nourish blood.

Possible symptoms mentioned by Bensky in connection with Liver Qi Stagnation are hypochondriac (ribcage area) pain, headache, vertigo, bitter taste in the mouth, dry mouth and throat, fatigue, reduced appetite, red tongue, irregular menstruation, PMS symptoms, breast distention, eye discomfort, and anger.

Chinese Medicine teaches us that the liver controls the eyes and vision and the tendons and as such we commonly see symptoms of connective tissue tension or feeling tight and needing to stretch, and vision or eye changes.

The emotion of Anger is controlled by the liver and will often manifest if the liver is "stuck". This often shows up as feelings of irritability, frustration or outright anger.

Our formula is comprised of the traditional Xiao Yao San plus two additional herbs designed to brighten and clear the eyes and release the physical and emotional inflammation of this seasonal pattern, Gou Qi Zi and Yu Jin.

We have used mildly sweet vinegar as a delivery base for this potent herbal formula to amplify it's Liver lovin' effects. Did you know that the sour flavor helps to move liver qi and clean out the filter? Did you know that the naturally sweet flavor of honey nourishes the spleen and supports digestion?

Get your bottle before they run out, this is it for the season. We'll be on to Summer before you know it.
